There are countless things to see and do during your stay in Torbay. The English Riviera is the nearest it gets to being abroad without getting on a plane. The bay has elegant Victorian terraces with a number of sandy beaches, continental style bars and cafes and ornamental gardens creating a Mediterranean atmosphere.
The Norwood's location allows you to discover Torquay's rich heritage. The world renowned Queen of crime, Agatha Christie, not only lived here in Torbay, but drew much inspiration from the area. You can explore the award winning prehistoric caves at Kent’s Cavern, experience the splendour of Torre Abbey or watch the birds and penguins at Living Coasts. In Babbacombe, Bygones and the Babbacombe Model Village are also well worth a visit.
Torquay is also surrounded by beautiful countryside and national parks; prime examples of this are the pretty thatched village of Cockington and Dartmoor National Park. There is so much to discover!
» Swimming and Sunbathing
You can relax on your choice of the Riviera's 18 beaches or stroll along the sea front promenade and around the Marina.
» Fishing and Sailing
There are plenty of opportunities for both sea fishing and freshwater fishing in and around Torquay.
» Walking, Cycling and Exploring
Wander around Torbay harbour and sample the abundance of pavement cafes, pubs, restaurants and nightlife, good quality shops and a host of attractions to suit every interest. There are miles of walks including the South West Coastal Path, Dartmoor and river walks.
For a great day trip, we'd recommend that you head to the neighbouring town of Paignton where you can catch the steam train to Dartmouth. Travelling by steam train along the South Devon coastline is a great way to take in the sights and sounds of Torbay. After heading across a viaduct, you'll travel along the banks of the River Dart arriving at the picturesque river mouth town of Kingswear where you can take a ferry across to Dartmouth to explore the local shops and art galleries,
or walk out of the castle at the mouth of the River and take in the views.
The Norwood also makes a great base from which to explore further afield, and we are happy to recommend 'Red Roadster' Car Hire, who'll deliver your choice of classic MG to the Norwood whilst you're enjoying your breakfast. You can then travel through the scenic South Hams or explore the rugged landscape of Dartmoor National Park.
Torbay also makes a great holiday or short break destination if you need to unwind and get away from it all. There is a great choice of dining venues in Torquay - ranging from Michelin Star restaurants to takeaway outlets.
As resident proprietors, we are always on hand to answer any questions or help you get the most out of your stay.
